Took B and G to Target this morning, and they had a "Star Wars" decal on the sliding doors that said "Use the force to open." LOVED IT! The kids and some random person also walking to the store looked at me as though I was insane as I told them to use the force. Then there was a cut out of Chewy when we came in that roared in Chewy's language.

OMG! I am getting so excited about these movies in spite of myself!

I feel like I didn't watch as many movies this year as I usually do. This month has been busy. However, I did watch two good ones, and especially after the last one I didn't feel like hedging my bets any further and watching something that was crap and ending October on that note. So here goes!

Four little non-spoilery reviews below. )

On another note, I had a horrible nightmare this morning that I was counseling someone who was actively suicidal (THAT'S enough of a nightmare on it's own). When I went to call the police she got mad and attacked me. What was weird about the dream was that usually when I'm threatened in a dream, whoever is attacking me is waiting patiently while I try to dial 9-1-1, but I can never dial it! I keep hitting the wrong buttons. In this dream I was able to dial 9-1-1 correctly, but she didn't wait patiently for me to call the police and jumped me as I was dialing!

...And then she transformed into a hideous banshee monster creature.

May be it's time to lay off the horror movies for awhile.

OK, it's my favorite time of the year again! Time to build a graveyard in my garden (because damned if I can actually grow flowers!), put the ghoul in the tree, and claim that the dust on the ceiling fans is fake spiderwebs and not me being too busy/sick/lazy to dust them. It's also time for horror movies and ghost stories and pumpkin flavored treats and actual pumpkin carving! Or pumpkin butchering in my case (I got the music gene, I got the writing gene, I did NOT get the artsy gene).

Anyway, as always I kick off the end of September/beginning of November with an overview of the scary stuff I've watched since the previous October. Though, compared to previous years, the list isn't too long. Mostly because I had to re-watch The Cabin in the Woods a few times. )

A lot of times when I'm feeling poorly I like to pull up videos of great Broadway performances or scenes from musicals that I really like on Youtube. Fortunately Brent loves watching people sing as much as I do and is perfectly content to sit on my lap while I do this. I noticed that while he seems to dislike cartoons (I tried showing him some Disney clips last night) he was fine if I showed him a clip from a Disney show on Broadway or a CGI film (he a was content with Tangled, even though I thought that it really didn't work well with music as a cartoon would have). I don't really get it, I guess may be he doesn't like 2D or finds it off putting, but thinking of tv shows he won't watch Dora or other cartoons but loves Yo Gabba Gabba and Thomas. Strange.

Anyway, it's getting close to my favorite holiday, Halloween (okay, okay, there's still some time, but if I have to put up with Christmas for three whole months then I can have Halloween early, too!) And I'm at the point where I just can't wait and am prowling Netflicks for my next favorite horror movie and trolling sites for spin tingling ghost stories (I don't believe in that stuff, but I love reading about it!)

So I pulled up This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and OMG, he freaking loved it! Fortunately it was on Netflicks so we watched it together and it held his attention. He was completely engrossed! So I'm hoping the love of dark and creepy has been passed down to him.

Blah, blah, blah. )

I meant to post this on Halloween and got a little delayed. Better late than never though!

Thrills and chills below the cut...may be. )

Time I took a break from more serious matters and got into that Halloween spirit! So, here's a list of some of the creepiest scenes from movies I've seen through the years.

OK, my favorite holiday, Halloween, is just around the corner. And as this is B.'s first Halloween I'm very excited about getting him dressed up and parading him around the neighborhood for Trick or Treating and going on a haunted hayride and all other sorts or neat things. Only problem is that I'm debating between 4 costumes for him. So, I'm putting it to a poll here.

A treat for those of you who ever wondered what Mary Poppins would be like as a horror film here.

And a treat for those of you who like a good scare!

...And the quest for the ultimate Halloween movie continues. What I watched this past week was not scary so much as weird. Yes, weird is the word I would use to describe them. May be it's my hormones.

The cut is here. )

This is the time of year where I exhaust my Netflicks Instant View in an attempt to find a good horror movie. It doesn't help that I'm so picky. Really, the last film that I saw that I felt was genius was "The Orphanage", and I watched that a few years ago. This year I have found some films that range the gamut from "it just sucks" to "this was almost awesome."

And the films in the order that I watched them are... )

It's October! That means that Halloween, my favorite holiday, is just around the corner! And as the song from A Nightmare Before Christmas goes, "life's no fun without a good scare." So here's my list of the best horror films. And basically so you know what I look for, I love movies that have a good plot twist at the end that I never saw coming.

Be prepared for thrills and chills below the cut! )
